Jacob Stefano

Obituary of Jacob William Stefano

Jacob William Stefano, beloved son of Daniel and Laura Stefano (Baj) and adored big brother of Lyla Stefano. Also dearly loved by grandparents William and Carol Baj (Rosowski) and Robert and Lynda Stefano (Lewallen), and by aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates, neighbors, nurses, doctors, and friends.

Jake was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the sweet age of 5 and battled this stupid disease with awesome bravery and authenticity for nearly 6 years. After his 11th birthday Jake finally said “no more of you,” and that cancer died with Jake, who was warm in his bed with his parents nearby.

He was a genius who taught himself to read at 6 years old, and despite missing full years of school, he tested above grade level when he did attend. If he lived to be 100, maybe he would have been an engineer who solved the energy crisis, or an oncologist who cured cancer. He is everyone’s loss.

He was an old soul, who taught his mother the importance of patience, deep breaths, and gratitude.

He was a challenger. He spoke up for himself and others. He called you out on your BS. He loved messing with people, just a little bit, and that was our lesson in keeping humor in all situations.

He loved playing video games, swimming, eating his father’s cooking, dry jokes, and annoying his sister. Earthside, he will be dearly, desperately missed.

Family and friends are asked to please join us in memorializing Jake on Saturday, February 15. Visitation 2-4 pm followed by memorial service at Falco, Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N Browning Road.

IIn lieu of flowers, please make a donation to help find a cure for neuroblastoma to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, through Jake's tribute page (Jake Stefano Memorial Fund).
