Today, I remember a man who was so much more than a friend — Jay was like a son to me.
Jay had a rare and beautiful spirit, one rooted deeply in his love for God, his family, job and his friends. He never rushed through life; he was always willing to sit, listen, and talk about faith, love, and the things that truly matter. His words carried a wisdom and a warmth that made you feel seen, heard, and cared for.
Jay was a steady light — always ready to help, always ready to show up for the people he loved without hesitation.
There wasn’t a day that he didn’t make time to reach out, sending his daily text messages filled with encouragement, gratitude, and love. Those little messages — simple but powerful — were reminders of how much he cared, how deeply he thought about the people he held close.
I will miss his kindness, his honesty, and his way of making me feel valued every single day.
But most of all, I will miss the way he made faith and love feel alive in every conversation and every moment we shared.
Thank you, Jay, for your unwavering heart.
You will always live on in the prayers you prayed, the love you gave, and the memories we carry.
Until we meet again.
Much love
Jackie

We first met Jay shortly after moving to Merchantville in 2003. He quickly became our mechanic, as we recognized his excellent skills, honesty, and integrity. Over the years, we became friends with him and Lorena, and we frequently enjoyed Lorena's special luncheons at the shop. And we were touched to be invited to other events, including Lorena's 40th birthday party. Jay went all out for Lorena, and she in turn took care of Jay. You could see and feel the amazing love between them, and it was truly a blessing to be with them. Jay would do anything for you. He was always asking how he could help. He was a thoughtful, kind, giving person and a beautiful soul. We will miss Jay greatly, but he will live on in our hearts. Sending Lorena and all his family and friends light and love and prayers. Rest in peace, sweet Jay.

My sincere condolences to Lorena and family members. I first met Jay back in 2007 when I was looking for a mechanic to fix my car. As soon as I met Jay and he fixed my car, I knew I had found a trustworthy and reliable mechanic. Over the years, Jay was my "go to" guy. He was honest, reliable and always pleasant to deal with. I am extremely sorry to hear of Jay's passing and know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this challenging time. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely, Mark, Maria & Evan Smith

I met Jay in 1994 through a friend. What I can say about Jay Flanders is that he was a young mechanic (23yrs old) working as the boss in his shop, his mother was his mechanic secretary at the time, very nice lady lots of laughs and very supportive for her son. I had a 1991 Chevy Lumina Euro Sport, everyone knew those cars lol. Jay has been servicing my vehicle for years until he gave me the cut throat signal, " Ralph my buddy, it's time to send her off ! ".. Jay and I would go back and forth in his shop about letting go my Lumi. He would go back on his words and still try to fix it anyway. While waiting for my vehicle, Jay would lend me a loaner car sometimes for a day or two or three or four or five until my vehicle was completed.
Jay was a caring, giving, sharing, funny, hip and showed empathy. I've had (and still ) have alot of respect for Jay because, other mechanic I've known wouldn't even take the time to do what he's done, even if he didn't have time he would still do it. Great people go to soon. Jay was sent here to show people what it's like to be human and to show people how we are suppose to be in life. Some people get it, and some people don't and would take advantage of it as well, they'll be the ones that will never learn to take that with them.
We have loss Jay too soon, he's received his goals and blessings. First..., he married the love of his life Lorena, she is such a loving, caring, forgiving and spiritual woman. She was made for him, like a hand and glove, and a pea in a pod. And his son Justin and other family members and friends and to top it off, he's gotten to build his own shop.
I would like to share something very important to his parents Mr. & Mrs. Flanders, " Thank you for bringing one of many angels into this world, he has made such an impact in our lives thank you so much." The natural mechanism in the center of his chest showed nothing but love. Like I always said, " You're our mechanic that fell from heaven !", now he's on his way. R.I. P. farwell my friend/brother, you will be greatly missed.
With our deepest sympathy to Lorena and family.
Sincerely, Love
Raphael & family

Was very sad to hear the news about Jay. Great guy, always loved busting stones with him. Met Jay at Passarella's Sunoco back in 88/89. Very proud to see the business he built and the person he became. Enjoyed stopping in to his shop, although Jay said I always came when he was eating and I never brought any food. Will be missed.

To Lorena and family, my heart is aching for you with the loss of Jay. You are in our prayers today and in the days ahead.
Jay lived his life on a mission to help people never expecting anything in return. So many words that I could use to describe what a great human he was I will pick some that I feel stand out. As a person he was compassionate, empathetic, genuine and considerate. He and Lorena had a dedicated compassion for the elderly and often went out of their way to look for ways that they could help. I remember a while back when a close friend that had no other family was in poor health, Jay and Lorena took her into their lives as if it was their own Mother, doing anything and everything to help her and stayed with her through the night when she was in her final days, I always admired that in Jay and Lorena. As a businessman he was hardworking and honest, he often stayed well into the night working on a customers car if they needed the car done for the next day, he will be greatly missed by all of his customers. As a friend we will miss his loyalty and support, we are fortunate to have had so many good times and memories with Jay. As a family man and husband, Jay was a blessing and devoted his life to making Lorena happy, he viewed his marriage as a partnership and lived his life to keep that close bond. Jay, you are in our hearts always.

It's nearly impossible to convey all of Jay's sweetness and his concern and love for others in a single eulogy. Almost the last words Jay said to us was "love everyone every chance you get" and that certainly was emblematic of his life. Jay loved. Jay cared. We are glad he is out of pain and in a place where disease can't touch him or curb his life anymore. But oh, how we - and this world of his that he loved so much - will miss him.

Jay was the kind of person who knew everyones quirks and understood them all. He was the person you yelled at on Thanksgiving because he picked up the phone and did not let it go to a voice message because he knew you (HIS customer). He was the person you sent a text to about your car noises and he would laugh and say your descriptions are getting better BUT one thing about Jay your car was fixed and fixed correctly.
Lorena, this is so hard to believe and we are so sorry. Accept our deepest condolences to you and your family.

This is the kind of guy Jay was: My wife and I were spending the day in Christiana, Delaware , and when we were ready to head home to Cherry Hill, the car wouldn't go into gear. In desperation I texted Jay who immediately responded. "Where are you?" I responded, a shopping center in Delaware. "I'm driving down, I know exactly what the problem is". Jay hopped in his car, at rush hour, and drove to Delaware to get my car running, and he did! "I'll be right behind you", he said. Jay got us home to his garage where he fixed it the next day all perfect. My mechanic drove to all the way to Delaware to get me and my wife home, and he wouldn't take a dime for it. He was one heck of a guy.... I'll remember him and the favor he did for me always. He affectionately referred to me as "Pops". May Perpetual Light shine upon him.
