Obituary of Richard D. Spieler Sr.

Richard D. Spieler, Sr., age 73 years of Pennsauken, passed away on January 17, 2026.  Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Samuel and Helen (nee Squadrito) Spieler.

Beloved husband of Nancy (nee Della Veccia) for 53 years.  Devoted father of Richard Spieler, Jr. (Kristen) and David Spieler (Samantha).  Loving poppop of Richard III, Samuel, Skyla and Tyeloni.  Dear brother of the late Theresa and Ronald.  Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

For over five decades, he was a dedicated and passionate member of the IBEW Local 827, beginning his career in 1970 with NJ Bell. His unwavering commitment to his colleagues and the union was evident throughout his journey, which saw him transition to Bell Atlantic and later Verizon as Chief Steward.  He tirelessly advocated for his fellow workers, ensuring their voices were heard and their rights protected. In 2004, his leadership and dedication were recognized when he was promoted to Business Agent, a role he held until his passing. Through every step of his career, he remained a steadfast supporter of his brothers and sisters in the union, forming lifelong bonds and creating a legacy of service and solidarity. His love and respect for his fellow members were unmatched, and his contributions to the local union and the industry will never be forgotten.

When he was not working, Richard loved showing his classic cars in car shows and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was always willing to help others and was always generous with his family and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5-8 PM and Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 10-11 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N. Browning Road.  A Funeral Service will held on Thursday at 11 AM at the Funeral Home.  Final disposition will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home, 524 NW Blvd in Vineland, NJ 08360.
