Eileen Egan

Obituary of Eileen M. Egan

Eileen M. Egan (nee Piontkowski) born January 6, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 in Davenport, Florida leaving behind her loving husband of fifty-one years, Lawrence Robert Egan. Eileen is survived by sons Ryan (Victoria) of Audubon, New Jersey and Kyle (Ashley) of Norwell, Massachusetts; grandchildren Margaret and Finnegan, and Andrew and Spencer, as well as her brother Thomas (Carol) Piontkowski, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Eileen graduated from Camden Catholic High School in New Jersey, then attained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Glassboro State College in Glassboro, New Jersey in 1972. She later earned a Master’s in Education from Marygrove College. Upon graduating from Glassboro State, she secured a teaching position in the Pennsauken School District in Pennsauken, New Jersey, beginning a career in education that spanned more than forty years.

Throughout her career, she taught hundreds of students in mathematics across various grade levels before later becoming a mathematics administrator. She was a committed colleague and champion of mathematics education throughout New Jersey and served a leadership role in The Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey. She loved being an educator, and she cared deeply for her students, many of whom she kept in touch with even during her retirement in Florida.

As a child, Eileen aspired to be an astronaut. In her teens, she danced on American Bandstand and Jerry Blavat’s show in Philadelphia. As an undergraduate, she hosted Elton John at Glassboro State, booking the then yet-to-be known talent in one of his first American appearances.

When Eileen took something on, she took it on fully. She never half-a**ed anything. She was confident in her beliefs, rooted in her convictions, and uncompromising in her tastes. Eileen was generous of her time, of her encouragement, and of her empathy. Her spirit will be missed by so many of the lives she touched.
