Jose Serrano

Obituary of Jose Antonio Serrano

Jose Antonio Serrano, age 81 of Pennsauken, passed away peacefully at his home on May 5, 2026.  He was born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico on November 5, 1944 to the late Antonio and Virgin (nee Aguirre) Serrano.

Devoted father of Michelle Serrano and Monica (Serrano) Sula-Gerst (Matthew); Loving grandfather of Zoey-Celeste Serrano, Miranda Kate Sula and Raleigh Gerst; Dear brother of  Israel Serrano (Petra) and Edith Serrano; Also survived by his former wife and friend Virginia Serrano (nee Santiago) and nieces and nephew, Jenny, Kathy and Luis Serrano as well as his best friend of over 50 years Adrian Figueroa

Mr Serrano proudly served his country in the Vietnam War beginning in 1965, among the first American troops deployed overseas. During his military service, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 1st Cavalry Division, carrying that dedication and strength with him throughout his life.  After returning home from his military service, he devoted himself to building a loving family and giving back to his community. He was an active volunteer with his local community club and proudly coached the Jr. Brave Little League baseball team. Jose grew up in New York City, where he spent his youth playing wall ball with friends and experiencing the energy and spirit of the city as a bike messenger in New York's Fashion District, a job that reflected his determination, independence, and strong work ethic from an early age.  Some of his fondest memories were of riding horses with his brother in Puerto Rico. He enjoyed working on cars, drawing, photography and working on computers. Mr. Serrano also loved to read manuals and to teach himself to do anything that needed to be done. He enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked and could fix anything. "What a life" indeed.

He will be greatly missed by so many.

The family will be holding a private memorial service and kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jose’s memory to a local veterans organization.
