Obituary of Carmen D. Melendez

Carmen D. Melendez (nee Flores), age 86 of Blackwood, passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2026.  She was born in Cidra, Puerto Rico on February 15, 1940 to the late Herminio and Maria (nee Melendez) Flores.

Beloved wife of Juan F.; Devoted mother of Alexi Carrasquillo (Carmen Mendez), Juan Melendez Jr. (Mildre), Jose Melendez (Sandra), Hector Melendez (Carlos Quintero), Andy Melendez and Nilsa Pace (Frank); Loving grandmother of Maria, Carmen, Anexis, Arianna, Cristian, Chelsea, Lucas, Jonavin, Giada and Evangeline; Cherished great grandmother of 5 and great great grandmother of 1.

Carmen was a longtime active parishioner at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Camden, where she was a 20+ year member of the St. Anthony Ladies Society.  She was also one of the first female eucharistic ministers in the city of Camden, and was known for praying novenas for anyone in need.  Carmen enjoyed cooking, tending to her garden and taking trips to the casinos.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Friday from 9 to 10:45 AM at the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 2818 RIver Avenue in Camden, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chews Landing.
