Obituary of Luis Peter

Luis Peter, age 87 of Camden, passed away on July 14, 2026 at Cooper Medical Center in Camden.  He was born on September 29, 1938 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to the late Tomas and Paula (nee Ortiz) Peter.

Devoted father of Walesca Peter and Idanis Peter-Diaz (Daniel); Loving grandfather of Yelitza Manley and Xavian Diaz and great grandfather of Zoey and Rowyn Manley; Dear brother of Carmen Luisa.  He is also survived by his former wife of over 30 years, Nilsa Peter.

Luis graduated from Rio Piedro High School in Puerto Rico and then came to the States, taking care of horses at racetracks up and down the East Coast.  He later worked for Globe Furniture; and then finally worked as a security guard for the Diocese of Camden main office for 15 years up until his retirement in 2018.  Luis also drove a school bus in Camden for Sacred Heart school and was known by many of the students as "Mr. Peter the bus driver".  He cherished spending time with his family and was always trying to help anyone in need.  He enjoyed Yankees baseball, watching boxing, singing and salsa dancing.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Wednesday, July 22 from 8:45 to 9:45 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 642 Market Street in Camden where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
