Obituary of Vera Capaldo

Vera (Elvira) Capaldo, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 99.

Born in Camden, New Jersey, Vera was the daughter of the late Donato and Maria (Grassi) Mignogna.

Vera dedicated her life to what mattered most to her – family and faith. A proud daughter of Italian heritage, she embraced and shared the traditions, values and warmth of her culture throughout her life. Vera’s home was often the gathering place for family celebrations, where her cooking brought generations together and helped create memories that will be cherished forever.  She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and bingo with family and friends, and was also a loyal and enthusiastic Phillies fan.  Her greatest pride, however, was her family, and she treasured the moments spent with them. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Anthony Capaldo, and her siblings: Millie Palombo, Lydia Castano, Connie Macrina, Jenny Mignogna, Annette DeVicci, Lucy Lizzio, Joe Mignogna, Michael Mignogna, Art Mignogna and Arman Mignogna.

Vera is survived by her children, John (Pat) Capaldo, Joyce (Tony) Foster, and Maria (John) Slimm; her beloved six grandchildren Michael (Lori) Foster, Jared (Jenna) Slimm, Johna (Steven) DeAngelis, Dayna Foster (Christina), Jackie Slimm (Andrew), and Marissa (Jarred) Sutton; seven great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Dezi, Riley, Lucia, Jack, Maddie and Zoey; special goddaughter Jil Wahl, and many extended family members.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation and funeral on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Christ our Light Church 402 Kings Highway N, Cherry Hill, NJ from 10:30AM-12:00PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM.   Final Resting place Calvary Cemetery Rt38 and Rt70 Cherry Hill NJ.
