Obituary of Elena Medina-Rodriguez

Elena Medina-Rodriguez, age 91 years, of Pennsauken, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018. 

Dona Elena’s parents were the late Angel Medina and Juana Abreu.  She was the youngest of 11 children all who have predeceased her, Juan, Maria, Blanca, Isabelo, Petra, Pascasio, Santos, Cruz, Julia and Venancio. 

Dona Elena’s husband, Angel Ortiz Rodriguez went before her, as did her son, Jesus M. Rodriguez and her grandson, Anthony Cumbo.

She is survived by her loving children Luisa (Louis) Cumbo, Santos (Judy) Rodriguez, Petra (Ely) Mateo-Rodriguez and Daniel M. Rodriguez; her grandchildren Elena, Santos Jr., Steven, Shawn, Elizabeth and Sara and great grandchildren Carlie, Daniel Thomas, Alex, Jacob and Nicholas.  Doña Elena has many, many family members and friends who will love her forever especially, Marisol Navarro, Ediberta and Luciano Villafane as well as the entire church community.

Dona Elena will be affectionally remembered as a devoted catholic and a long-standing member of the Crusillistas movement.  She considered her profession to be a home engineer and she was one of the greatest “stay at home” moms.  Elena was an amazing cook and some of her specialties were soups, stews, pasteles, pastelillos and chicken San Giorgio.

Dona Elena greatly loved and supported her church community at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden.  Her alter ego was Wonder Woman because she was strong and loved protecting and caring for the sick.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Thursday from 6-8 PM and Friday from 8:30-9:15 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N. Browning Rd.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 642 Market Street in Camden.  Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the medical and care staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Avista Care Rehabilitation Center.  Thank you to everyone for their prayers, masses, good wishes and sacrifices.  Dona Elena wants all of us to love each other and live in peace (take care of one another).
