I'm dismayed at just learning about this today. Mr. Delaney was one of those wonderful people who helped make high school bearable for me. Like my own dad, he was a kind, caring gentlemen. He could make our gym classes fun as well as good exercise. He could make us laugh and he taught us touch football in the gym when it rained outside. He had a playful side that endeared him to us and I always will remember him fondly.
My heart goes out to his family. I'm sure his loss is devastating. Words can't begin to help but they're all I have. May God bless you with His endless loving comfort.

Please accept my deepest condolences to your family. I would like to offer encouragement to your family for the loss of your loved one. The Bible offers immense comfort and many wonderful promises from God foretelling an end to our enemy death. The scriptures at Isaiah 25:8 says, “He will swallow up death forever…”. Also at Revelation 21:4 it says, “And He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Please read these verses in your Bible and feel free to find additional comforting scriptures at jw.org.

When I think of Mr. Delaney, I think of a warm, charming, encouraging, quick with a compliment, quicker with a smile kind of guy who would make a great husband, dad, coach and counselor. I think of a man we were all very lucky to have in our lives.

I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of Coach Delaney. I had him for phys-ed at CCHS; he was a wonderful person and teacher. I ran into him a few times over the years and to my amazement he remembered me. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family. May the Good Lord give you comfort and peace at this most difficult time, and may He hold Mr. Delaney in the palms of His hands.
God bless,

I am truly sad to hear of Coach Delaney's passing. He led a tremendous coaching staff that truly elevated a very rough sport.
When I was senior playing my last season ('66), I went through a period of severe depression and twice went to his office and tried to quit. He urged me not to both times, and I finished the season intact.
Years later I was getting a MA degree at Glassboro and we happened to meet - I think he was teaching a summer course there. He spontaneously apologized to me for not being more empathic at that time, and he made quite a point of it. Between what I learned from him through football - persistence in the face of difficulty - and his humility for the way he expressed regret - he became a model for what it was to be a human. My big regret now is that I never thanked him for that.
"So Coach Delaney, thank you for your guidance and kindness."

Thank you for the opportunity to express, however incompletely, my admiration of Coach Delaney. Although I am now 72, he will always be Coach to me, because he coached me so well, and had such an impact on my life.
I was a junior at Camden Catholic when Coach came aboard. He, along with his assistants, Coach Oldenburg and Coach Hennessey, totally turned around the football program. He raised the level of professionalism among the staff and players to levels never before seen. We all felt, from the beginning, that we were expected to rise to his level of performance, and that he would guide us all the way. Every player learned to push themselves to the utmost, and Coach always acknowledged that. Even players who maybe weren't the best athletes, were given chances to prove themselves, and he always tried to allow everyone to get in a game.
Our first season didn't go too well, at 0-9, but my senior year, we did much better, at 5-4.
All my life, I had wanted to attend West Point, and Coach did everything he could to help me. He had an Army coach come to school to meet me, and Coach did his best to assist my getting in. When the telegram arrived, announcing my acceptance, the next day, I was sure to tell him and thank him for his help. After my Army time, I decided to pursue medicine, and at my interview for that school, there were two West Pointers also being interviewed, both of whom were accepted. I like to think that Coach's earlier help was a major reason why I was accepted. The help that I have been able to provide my patients would not have been available, if Coach had not worked so hard for me those many years ago. During my time in the Army, I met my wife, with whom I just celebrated 47 years of marriage. None of that would have happened without Coach in my life.
The last time I saw him was at the first Hall of Fame ceremony. He laughed when he saw me, and commented that he and the rest of the coaches were so young when they coached us; maybe eleven years older than us. I replied that we always looked at the coaches as fathers and mentors, and they were like gods to us. I did thank him for his influence in my life, but he was, as always, very modest about it.
I'm sure that, when he is welcomed into heaven, that he will be given a clear image of all the good that he had done in his life. The world is a better place because of Coach.

Mr. Delaney was such a nice man. He was one of my favorite people at Camden Catholic & I have very fond memories of him. I remember one time I called him "Father" by mistake & when I went to correct myself, his response was "that's ok. I'm a father, too." May he Rest in Peace.

Next to my father, the most influential man in my life. He was an inspiration; fair, played by the rules, and prepared even poor football players like me for life beyond Camden Catholic. I think of him often and am saddened by this news. He made me a better man, and a better person. In high school, one of my biggest thrill was that he knew my name.
Thank you Coach Delaney. RIP.
