Luis A. Torres, age 66 years of Camden, passed away on February 4, 2020 at Vitas Hospice in Stratford.
Born in Puerto Rico on April 8, 1953, the third of seven children born to the late Carmen Rosa and Ismael Torres. His family moved to Milwaukee, WI where Louie spent his early childhood. The Torres family later moved to Philadelphia, PA, where Louie came of age. As a young man, he loved doo-wop music, sports, especially basketball and martial arts. Louie's life trajectory took him to Chicago, IL where he was employed by Helene Curtis, a beauty products company, working his way up to quality control supervisor. Later, he returned to the Philadelphia area and for the past 17 years resided in Camden, NJ.
Louie will be remembered for his humor as well as his generosity and compassion. He never refused a family member in need of his help. Although his means were limited, he gave freely to charitable causes that touched his heart. His main charitable commitment was to two Honduran children, a boy and a girl, that he supported via the Child Fund. Louie sent money every month, with a little extra on their birthdays and they responded with sweet messages of thanks and appreciation.
Loving father of Ricky, Christina and Aida. Dear brother of Jose "Joe", Ismael "Junior", Marylou and Rosa. Also survived by his grandchildren and nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 12:30 PM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Camden Funeral Home, 3425 River Road, where a Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Child Fund International, P.O. Box 26507 Richmond, VA 23261-6507 to support a cause that was close to Louie's heart.
