Bernard Goldschmidt

Obituary of Bernard J. Goldschmidt

Bernard John Goldschmidt of Cherry Hill, NJ, born November 11, 1966, precious son of Mary M. Goldschmidt (nee Harrington) and the late Thomas C. Goldschmidt, passed away peacefully at his home on April 3, 2020. He is survived by his wonderful mother, Mary M. Goldschmidt (nee Harrington), 3 loving siblings – Margie Rottler (Jim), Mary Dempsey (Steve), and Clare Bauer (Jeff). The dear brother of the late Tim Goldschmidt, he is also survived by his loving sister-in-law Vinese, as well as eight nieces and nephews who adore him: Kyra, Victoria, Jimmy, Vincent, Julia, Bridget, Aiden, and Maggie. Bern was a graduate of Christ the King in Haddonfield, NJ and Saint Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, PA, and was a friend to everyone he knew. During high school, he rowed on the SJP Crew team, and made a name for himself on the stage as well, performing in many plays at his high school. If the role required him to do an impromptu backflip on stage, he would do it, no questions asked. When school let out for the summer, Bern was a record-setting diver at Barclay Farm Swim Club in Cherry Hill. He went on to study at The University of Scranton, continued with theatre there, and maintained his love and respect for higher learning for the rest of this life. Beyond school, Bern was a proud member of the Knights of the Columbus and had a profound understanding of his faith. He continued to love the arts as well, performing in adult theatre and ushering for the Walnut Street Theatre for many years. He adjusted seamlessly to one of his most impactful roles – that of Uncle to eight nieces and nephews. Whether it was playing the piano together or embracing any of their many talents and activities, Bern was always engaged and interested about them. A Celebration of his Life and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Chews Landing. Arrangements under the direction of Falco/Caruso & Leonard Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bern to Holy Eucharist Parish in Cherry Hill, www.holyeucharistcherryhill.org, or to The Poor Clares of Langhorne, PA, www.poorclarepa.org
