Devoted father of John Alvarez, Jr. (Winnie), Betty Alvarez-Fager (Chuck), Jeannie Alvarez, Ricardo Alvarez and Rayna Alvarez-Johnson (Roy).  Loving grandfather of Jonathan, Adriane, Steven, Chuck Jr., Haley, TJ, Brittany, Samantha, Elijah and Isaiah and 5 great grandchildren.  Dear brother of 12 brothers and sisters.  Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and the Schelmety, Mercado and Camano families. Prior to his retirement, John was employed at Cooper Hospital in Camden for 29 years.  He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, recipient of the National Defense Service medal in July of 1951, and served on the Battleships Brownson, Lowry and Patterson.  He also taught Women's Self-Defense classes with the Camden Police Department and received numerous accolades for the ROTC Reserve Program at the Philadelphia Naval Base. Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Friday from 9AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 North Browning Road, where a Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11 AM.   Interment services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
