Obituary of Etta C. Banks
Etta C. Banks, age 86 years of Haddonfield, passed away on August 14, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Etta C. Banks was born on May 18, 1935 in Delaware Township (now known as Cherry Hill, NJ) to the late Clarence Leroy Cephas and Mary Lake Cephas. Etta was educated in the Delaware Township school system and a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School.
Etta was employed at RCA and later went on to be employed as a Supervisor at Siemens Corporation in Cherry Hill until her retirement. She then started a new career as a personal caregiver.
Etta accepted the Lord at a young age and was a devoted member of the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, Haddonfield, New Jersey, where she and her sisters, Catherine and Frances served on the church kitchen committee.
Etta enjoyed life and she loved her family!! She enjoyed cooking AND WAS A GREAT COOK, she loved doing for others. She enjoyed making chicken dishes, delicious potato salad, famous baked mac and cheese, and coconut pound cake for dessert. Her home at 140 Potter Street was always open.
Etta was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Robin DeShields (Dennis), son Richard Whittington, grandson Brandon Banks (Careen). She is preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard, Leon, Herman, William and Charles. Seven sisters, Lucille Hinson, Audrey Pratt, Winifred Huff, Catherine King, Carrie Frances Shorter, Grace Geneva Sharpless and Bertha Butler. Three godchildren, Pamela Johnson, Peter Sharpless and Tahron Person and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 9:30 - 11 AM at the Calvary Bible Tabernacle Church, 47 N. 23rd Street in Camden, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM. Final disposition will take place privately.
At the request of the family and the church, please wear masks at all times, regardless of vaccination status.
