Obituary of Anthony R. DiSabato

Anthony "Sonny" R. DiSabato, age 89 years of Pennsauken, passed away on February 22, 2022.

Beloved husband of the late Marion (nee Crisfulla) and the late Mary (nee Keating). Devoted father of Anthony DiSabato (Theresa) and Rita Tahenakos (Benjamin). Loving grandfather of Anthony, Danielle (Pat), Zachary, and Nicholas (Jess). Dear brother of Marion DeFrancisco, Alfonso DiSabato, and the late Regina DiSabato.

Sonny was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He went to South Philadelphia High School playing halfback and defensive back for the Rams. Every month, for the past thirty plus years, Sonny would attend lunch at the Phily Diner with his former teammates and classmates. He was also a Mummer, and when talking to him, he never shied away from letting you know his strut down Broad St. was how it’s done. He embodied what it meant to be a South Philadelphian. Sonny was a 60 year member of Cement Masons Local 592 in Philadelphia. He was elected and served as Vice President and Business Agent for 15 years. He was also a trustee on the Health, Welfare, and Pension funds. Sonny retired from the Cement Masons in 1995 and continued to actively support the union, attend meetings, and enjoy monthly lunches with his retired union friends. For the past 20 years Sonny served as Senior Coordinator for Pennsauken Township, and President for the Camden County Municipal Coordinators on Aging Association. He loved working with Pennsauken’s seniors, helping them with their everyday needs, and keeping them informed of what was going on in the township. If they couldn’t get to the Municipal Building to see him, Sonny would go to them. He was committed to helping those in need. He was a member of The Sons of Italy Lodge #2567 in Cherry Hill. He also supported many causes such as U.N.I.C.O., Arc Rainbow, and The Variety Club. When he wasn’t working Sonny enjoyed crab night, making crabs and spaghetti, to support local V.F.W.s. Sonny’s Italian heritage ingrained in him a strong love of family. Spending time with his children and grandchildren made him the happiest. Sunday dinners, celebrating the holidays, and time at the Jersey Shore were his favorite. Sonny loved everyone, and everyone loved Sonny.
