Verna Benson

Obituary of Verna L. Benson

Verna Lorraine Benson was born in Merchantville, New Jersey to the late Samuel E and Mary E Still-Benson on August 16, 1945, and departed this life peacefully on March 5, 2022.

Verna received her education in the Merchantville and Pennsauken school systems. She worked for many years at Lillian Albus Shops in Cherry Hill, then moved on to Harrah’s Marina Casino in Atlantic City until retiring in 2004.

After retirement Verna enjoyed life with her sisters taking bus trips enjoying sights and activities at places she had always wanted to visit. She also spent a great deal of time at home with family & friends and honed great skills for baking, gardening and perfecting her procurement skills via the QVC shopping network. However, her greatest joy was being a loving Nah Nah to her grandchildren.

Verna had a unique relationship with all who loved her. She lived her life in the family residence on Scovel Avenue where she welcomed every generation of family & friends to enjoy the home town experience that was reminiscent of pure love, warmth, comfort and fun times that home has always represented.

Verna is preceded in death by her loving parents Samuel & Mary Benson, eight brothers Harry Benson, Samuel E (Pete) Benson Jr, Roland (Sug) Benson, Karl (Nicky) Benson, John Benson, Donald Benson, Robert Benson, & Wallace Benson, four Sisters, Mary (Sis) Black, Phyllis Melbourne, Ruth Smith and Judith (Judy) Vann.

To continue her tradition, she blessed the family with two children, Troy Benson & Stacey Benson, seven grandchildren; Lionel Horton, Garrett Ingram, Brianna Ingram, Sheena Minniti, Macho Diaz, Justin Minniti, Michael Byers Cook, one Sister Margaret Johnson, one sister-in-law Esther Benson, one Aunt, Mildred Thomas and a God Daughter Felicia Coleman. As a bonus to her over-arching love, she embraced Darrell Vann, Russell Cook and Gregory Gray as sons and leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & lifetime friends to recall a lifetime of heartfelt experiences.
