Obituary of Julio Arroyo

Julio Arroyo, age 81, of Pennsauken, formerly of Camden, passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of the late Carmen L. Arroyo (nee Datil). Devoted father of Carmen Crow (nee Reyes), Miguel Montes (Nitza), Guillermo Montes (Nadira), Norma Datil, and the late Jose Reyes Sr.(Lillie). Loving grandfather of Jose M. Reyes II, Norma Montes, Calvin Crow, Christina Rosario, Sabrina Reyes, Ciany Reyes and Tierra Arline, and great grandfather of 3. Dear brother of Norma Arroyo, Carmen Arroyo, Luis Arroyo, Carmen Lydia Arroyo, José Labrador, Carlos Labrador, Heriberto Labrador, Benji Labrador, and the late Benjamin Arroyo. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Julio Arroyo and Aquilina Labrador.

Prior to retirement, Julio spent many years working for the City of Camden in the Public Works department. Coming to the mainland as a young teen from Ponce, Puerto Rico, he took great pride in teaching himself how to read and write English. He then became a book lover, and thanks to his late Tia Maria Arroyo, a well-known political figure in Puerto Rico, he read primarily historical and political books. He was a dedicated Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball. He passed that passion on to his kids and grandkids. As a lover of laughter, he never missed an opportunity to tell a good joke. He will always be remembered as the family comedian, finance guru, animal lover, singer who missed his calling, and most importantly, our cherished patriarch.
