Obituary of Luz Marie DeJesus

Luz Marie DeJesus

January 31, 1946 – March 8, 2023

On Wednesday, March 8, 2023 our beloved Mita went home to be with the Lord. Born in San Turce, PR to Jose Dolores Figueroa and Hilda Bonano, who brought her to the United States at just 15 days old. She was the devoted wife of our loving father Otoniel, for 50 years. She is survived by all 5 of her forever grateful children, Mary Ann Montano, Otoniel DeJesus, Jr (wife,Lourdes), Michael DeJesus (wife, Nancy), Cesar DeJesus (wife, Myra), and Gamaliel DeJesus (wife,Jeanette).  Her legacy lives on in her 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Celin Suarez, and siblings Ernesto, Amalio, Nellie, Maria, and Nancy. The additional multitude of family and friends that loved her and will forever miss her are evidence of the woman she was.

She was a skilled and leading figure in her 36 year career at Magnetic Metals Inc. in Camden, NJ where she met, and still cherished, her lifelong friend Celinda. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, she fought valiantly and with faith for 18 years determined that her faith in God and the strength of family would see her through.

She was a good and faithful Christian servant from childhood until her last breath. Instilling the values of loving God and keeping family united were always her life’s mission. She has now passed this mission on to us, showing us by example and teaching us the way.

We know this to be true because our Mita was a gospel-centered woman. She was created, redeemed, blessed, and gifted to be a blessing to those around her.
