John Phipps Jr.

Obituary of John L Phipps Jr.

John L. “Jack” Phipps, age 85 of Cherry Hill, formerly of Pennsauken, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 19, 2023.

He is the beloved husband of 56 years of Patricia (nee McDonough); devoted father of Jacqueline (Ed) Ferrell and John (Karen) Phipps; Loving grandfather of Kirsten, Emma and John.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and former students.

Jack was a 1956 graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School and 1961 graduate of Villanova University.  He was a proud United States Army Veteran serving from 1961-1963.  Jack began teaching at Camden Catholic High School in 1963 and retired after being an educator and guidance counselor for 53 years.  He loved teaching math and was an assistant coach for Camden Catholic Wrestling.  In his earlier years, he also worked as a bartender at Henny’s Restaurant in Stone Harbor and looked forward to his monthly “cronie’s breakfast” with fellow CCHS retired colleagues.

Jack was a huge fan of Philadelphia sports, Villanova basketball and all things Camden Catholic.  He enjoyed relaxing in Stone Harbor, working on crossword puzzles, sipping on a glass of white wine (with lots of ice) and most of all spending time with his family, especially at his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 beginning at 10 AM at the Catholic Community of Christ Our Light, 402 Kings Highway North in Cherry Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon.
