David Shiflet

Obituary of David M Shiflet

David Matthew Shiflet passed away on June 12, 2024, at the age of 47. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathleen Shiflet (nee Norris). Dave is survived by his daughter Quinn Kathleen Shiflet and her mother Bridget Verona; his sister Megan Carnell (Joseph); his brother Andrew Shiflet (Breen Murphy); his nieces and nephews Morgan, Donovan, Addison, Kate, and Ethan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him as much as he loved them.

Dave was born November 13, 1976 in Camden, New Jersey, and graduated from Cherry Hill High School East. He studied Music Education and Sociology at The Catholic University of America and received a B.S. in Accounting from Rutgers University in Camden. He worked for many years as an accountant, most recently at Navient in Wilmington, Delaware.

Anyone who knew Dave could attest to his love of Philadelphia sports teams. He attended many Phillies games at the Vet in his youth and took great joy as they drew top talent from nearby rivals. A devout Eagles fan, Dave rejoiced as his faith was rewarded with their Super Bowl 52 victory.

Music was also a central part of Dave’s life, both listening to it and playing it. He played the trumpet from elementary through high school before studying Music Education at Catholic University. In recent years, Dave played with the Chester County Concert Band. He was also a devoted follower of They Might Be Giants and Ben Folds Five.

Dave's most cherished role was that of father to his beloved daughter Quinn. He found immense joy in attending her theater and musical productions with the Catholic Community Choir. Always the proud dad, he loved sharing photos of Quinn with friends and family and keeping everyone updated on her achievements in school, on the stage, on the cheer squad as well as her travels, and more.
