Obituary of Joan Lisa Anderson

Joan L. Anderson (nee Marcus), age 70 years of Merchantville, passed away on July 20, 2024.

Beloved wife of Mark R. Anderson for 39 years. Devoted mother of Ian C. Anderson. Dear sister of Ron Marcus, Dr. Doug Marcus, and Randy Marcus. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews as well as many friends in the music industry.

Joan was born on October 7, 1953 to the late Bernard and Sylvia Marcus in Somerville, NJ. Joan was a very talented musician from a young age and was placed 1st chair oboe with the NJ All State Orchestra. She received two Masters Degrees, the first from DePaul University in Chicago, IL, and the second from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in Vocal Performance. Joan was an accomplished Coloratura Soprano Soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus. During her time with the CSO, she sang on 9 Grammy Award winning records. She then became a member of the AGMA and was an Alto Soloist at the Sinai Synagogue in Chicago. After which she sang with the Philadelphia Singers Chorale for 8 years. Joan then pursued a different career path when she became a banker at Wells Fargo & Sun Bank for over 12 years. In her spare time, Joan loved to garden and was secretary of the Merchantville Tree Commission. Her and her husband, Mark, enjoyed travelling and home renovation projects together. Joan will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her and hear her voice.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Graveside Service on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Crescent Memorial Park in Pennsauken. Please meet at the cemetery promptly at 1:15 PM for the Graveside Service to begin at 1:30 PM.
