Obituary of Mary Ellen Mayer

Mary Ellen Mayer (nee Parker), age 95 of Pennsauken, passed away at her home on August 9, 2024.  She was born in Camden, New Jersey on November 15, 1928 to the late Francis Albert and Agnes Mary (nee Cotter) Parker. 

She is the beloved wife of the late Harry J. Mayer Jr.;, devoted mother of Joan Mayer (Charles Mauer); Patricia (Anthony) Pizzutillo, James (Sharon) Mayer, Anne (George) Becker, Kathleen (Charles) Albino, Marie (Carl) Friedrich, John (Patricia) Mayer, Harry (Mira) Mayer, Mary Ellen (Chad) Cuneo, Jacqueline (Vince) Puleo and the late William (Virginia) Mayer; loving grandmother of 36; dear sister of Joan Sheehan (late Jerome) and the late Patricia Sloan (late Robert), late Francis Parker (Nora) and the late Robert Parker (late Eleanor).  She is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen enjoyed knitting and sewing, baking (especially apple pies and Christmas cookies), and going strawberry and blueberry picking with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed canning those berries into fresh strawberry and blueberry jams that she would share every year.  She was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Church in Pennsauken and would pray a rosary for friends, family or anyone in need.  She also volunteered at St. Stephens School while her children attended.

Mary Ellen adored her family, and amazingly she was able to remember all the birthdays of her 11 children, their spouses AND her 36 grandchildren.  She was also able to remember most of the birthdays (or at least birth months) for her 30 great grandchildren!

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation on Monday, August 26 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N. Browning Road.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM at the Church of St. Stephen, 6300 Browning Road.  Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
