Obituary of Falio Leyba

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Falio Leyba, who left us on August 19, 2024. Falio Leyba was a cherished member of our community and a beloved father, friend, and mentor. He was 77 years old.

He was born in Cevicos, Dominican Republic on July 30, 1947 to the late Luciano and Maria Leyba. He came to the United States in 1981, moving to New York and became a founding member of Riverside Taxi Company.   In 1995, he bought Leyba Grocery and was the heart and soul behind the business. This business not only provided for his family but also served as a cornerstone of support and kindness within the community. His commitment to excellence and his unwavering dedication to his family were matched only by his generosity and compassion. Falio Leyba was known for his willingness to lend a hand, whether it was through his business or through personal acts of kindness, always putting others before himself.

Beyond his professional life, Falio Leyba was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom for many. His friendships were deeply valued, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen and appreciated, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

Falio Leyba is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Ysa  Martinez and is the devoted father of Angela, Rosa, Falio Jr., Jeffrey and Falisa Leyba; cherished grandfather of Lismairy, Taina, Angel, Jeffrey Jr., Yadiel, Aleyda, Isaiah, Sophia, Camiella and Luciano and great grandfather of Nayalis; dear brother of Amarilis, Gari, Lepido, Morito, Angela, Moreno, Eddy, Yalisa, Hilario, and the Virgilia.  He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. 

A memorial service to celebrate Falio Leyba’s life and contributions will be held on Saturday from 8:30 to 11:15 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 642 Market Street in Camden, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum in Cherry Hill.

Falio Leyba’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and fighting spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and the many acts of goodwill he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Falio Leyba You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

 

Con profunda tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de Falio Leyba, quien nos dejó el 19 de agosto de 2024. Falio Leyba era un miembro querido de nuestra comunidad y un querido padre, amigo y mentor. Tenía 77 años.

Nació en Cevicos, República Dominicana el 30 de julio de 1947, hijo del fallecido Luciano y María Leyba. Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1981, se mudó a Nueva York y se convirtió en miembro fundador de Riverside Taxi Company.   En 1995 compró Leyba Grocery y fue el corazón y el alma detrás del negocio. Este negocio no solo proveyó a su familia sino que también sirvió como piedra angular de apoyo y amabilidad dentro de la comunidad. Su compromiso con la excelencia y su inquebrantable dedicación a su familia sólo fueron igualados por su generosidad y compasión. Falio Leyba se caracterizaba por su disposición a dar una mano, ya fuera a través de sus negocios o mediante actos de bondad personales, siempre anteponiendo a los demás antes que a sí mismo.

Más allá de su vida profesional, Falio Leyba fue un pilar de fortaleza y fuente de sabiduría para muchos. Sus amistades fueron profundamente valoradas y todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo extrañarán profundamente su presencia. Tenía una capacidad notable para hacer que todos se sintieran vistos y apreciados, dejando una huella indeleble en las vidas que tocaba.

A Falio Leyba le sobrevive su amada esposa durante 39 años, Ysa Martínez y es el devoto padre de Ángela, Rosa, Falio Jr., Jeffrey y Falisa Leyba; querido abuelo de Lismairy, Taina, Angel, Jeffrey Jr., Yadiel, Aleyda, Isaiah, Sophia, Camiella y Luciano y bisabuelo de Nayalis; querido hermano de Amarilis, Gari, Lepido, Morito, Ángela, Moreno, Eddy, Yalisa, Hilario y la Virgilia.  También le sobreviven muchas sobrinas, sobrinos y familiares queridos, que siempre llevarán su memoria en sus corazones. 

El sábado se llevará a cabo un servicio conmemorativo para celebrar la vida y las contribuciones de Falio Leyba de 8:30 a 11:15 en la Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción, 642 Market Street en Camden, donde se celebrará una Misa de Cristian Entierro a las 11:30. SOY.  El entierro seguirá en el Calvary Mausoleum en Cherry Hill.

El legado de bondad, generosidad y espíritu de lucha de Falio Leyba seguirá inspirando a todos los que lo conocieron. Su memoria vivirá en las innumerables vidas que tocó y en los muchos actos de buena voluntad que deja atrás.

Descanse en paz, Falio Leyba. Te extrañaremos profundamente pero nunca te olvidaremos.
