Obituary of James Henry Shepard, Jr.
James Henry Shepard, Jr., age 76 of Pennsauken, formerly of Fairview and North Camden, passed away on November 30, 2024 at Care One in Moorestown, New Jersey. He was born on August 21, 1948 in Camden, New Jersey to the late James Henry Shepard Sr. and Birdie Parron-Shepard.
He is survived by his beloved life partner and soulmate Joan Riley; dear brother of Brenda Harper, Ronald Shepard, Marcus Shepard and the late Thelma Stark, Eric Shepard, Anna Shepard and Anthony Shepard; Devoted uncle to Guy and Thomas Harper. He is also survived by his canine buddy Louie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Prior to his retirement, Shep was a Corrections Officer for 25 years with Riverfront State Prison until their closure and then at Garden State Prison. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, rooting for the Phillies, Eagles and 76ers. He loved traveling all over the USA and the world; especially vacationing in Bermuda, Canada, New Orleans and Colorado.
James enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, whether it be at the ocean or in the pines; tending to his garden and growing tomatoes and flowers. He liked listening to R&B, jazz or rock music, and going out to eat - he enjoyed everything from Kentucky Fried Chicken and Krispy Kreme donuts to pepperoni pizza at Dock Street in Philadelphia or shrimp fajitas at the Tortilla Press in Pennsauken.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Friday, December 6 fom 9 to 11 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N. Browning Road, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM. Final committal will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to the Animal Welfare Association, 509 Centennial Blvd., Voorhees, NJ 08043 -OR- to the Food Bank of South Jersey, 1501 John Tipton Blvd., Pennsauken, NJ 08110.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreiciation to the staff at Care One in Moorestown for their dedicated care during James' stay there.
