Don was the patriarch of the Industrial Design program at The Art Institute of Philadelphia. He was always more than accommodating to any student that ever needed assistance. There was not one class of his that I did not have a conceptual or physical disaster brewing with a project. Don always helped me fix it and I learned so much in the process. His talent and sincerity will be missed.

Don and I shared an office cubicle together at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where we both worked as instructors. More importantly, he was my neighbor (we only live a couple blocks from each other in Merchantville), and most importantly, he was my friend. I am saddened by his loss and will miss him terribly, as everyone will, but I have found some solace in what Edgar Cayce said regarding the experience of death and I d like to share it. "As we live day by day& as we apply the abilities and talents that we have, we shall have with us after the transition called death exactly those soul qualities that we have acquired on earth. When we pass over, our experience will not be very different from passing from one room to another. Matter changes, it speeds up. You might think of a propeller on an airplane. When it speeds up it seems to disappear. It hasn t gone anywhere. Or like the transformation of boiling water from a liquid into steam, it changes form. When you die the essence of your being is still there, it has simply changed form. Cayce goes on to say that prayer for others who have passed on is light. Your loved ones who have passed on listen for the sound of your voice in prayer on their behalf. Prayer lights their way, like focusing a flashlight. If that s the case, we have lit Don s way with the sun. Thank you my brother for doing the same for me by being a part of my life.

I worked with Don at The Art Institute of Philadelphia in the 1990's. Don was a lovely, memorable person, kind and thoughtful, considerate and very dedicated to his students. I have gotten to know his son Lucas, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Don did what we all should do, leave a lasting positive impact on those around him. He will be missed.

Don and Patrice, good neighbors, teachers and friends always had something different and interesting (?!)going on. We could tell everytime we walked by the house/museum when Don collected a new artifact or was getting ready for the holidays by putting the splendidly illuminated Christmas Bison on the roof. You gave the best parties, always giving friends and neighbors a chance to express themselves with the required props ands costumes. can never forget the night spent under the silver tarp in the rain late at night after our Gilmore Bay seafood party with the fire and music trying to kill an early Sunday-morning keg, or frantically setting up for the Haunted House with the crowds and Fire Marshall waiting, or gazing through your garden with the thoughtfully-placed artifact so carefully displayed to live out a final stage until they disintegrate. Many lessons you have taught me,Don, that I will try to remember to make a part of my daily life . . . mostly to see and enjoy and share the art that is not framed, but around us everywhere to see with a different eye and appreciate it for it's subtle offering here on earth. I will, and we all will, miss you, Don. Sorry for all the chances I had and missed to spend more time with you and appreciate your friendship more.

Don was a wonderful teacher and friend who I greatly admired; he was very talented, creative, understanding and most importantly, he had a profound impact on just about anyone who was part of his life. His teachings and passion for craft will certainly live on within his students who were all so lucky to have him as a teacher. He will be missed forever until we all meet again in the big wood shop in the sky.

My best memories of Don are from when he guided his Insustrial Design students at The Art Institute of Philadelphia in setting up last year's Phashion Phest set. I was there as the college's webmaster "covering" the day's activities and taking photos. The students had come up with a Rubik's cube design and much of the day of the event was spent at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia with power tools and wood, constructing a fabulous set for the evening's fashion show. Don was just fantastic in guiding the students to transform their ideas into 3-dimensional realities -- and had a similar impact on helping to build their characters as future designers. Don -- you will be missed.

Some people you work with make a bigger impression than others and Don was one of them. I will miss him. My sincere condolences.

Don began his career at AIPH two years before me. I will always remember him as a kind and gentle man who respected other peoples opinions. He was talented and inspiring. I was so saddened to see him suffer. I watched from afar as he fought a courageous fight. I thought he had won the battle. Just last week I waved to him in his classroom. There was a twinkle in his eye. I'm sure God was in need of a great Industrial Designer in Heaven. I'm sure that he will be building amazing works of art in the heavens. My greatest hopes that your family will know that he was respected and liked by everyone at AIPH. God Bless your family and your treasure your memories of this wonderful man.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Don as an IDT instructor at AIPH for the last 7years. It is no secret that IDT is one of my favorite programs at the college, and Don was always very welcoming to me and my potential students and their families as they toured the school. He would make it a point to introduce them to his department, and he was an excellent ambassador to the outside community. It was very fortunate for brand new students to have the opportunity to spend their first quarter with Don taking Fabrication Techniques - he set a positive tone for their college experience from the beginning. I know that past and present students will miss his presence, butthey will always remember the impact he had on them. This is a huge loss for the college, and I will miss him. My deepest sympathy. The first time I met Don it was Halloween and he was wearing a wolfman custume. Unfortunately for Don, it was very realistic and my son, who was already half wigged out because of the darkness and spooky atmosphere, kicked Don as hard as he could. When I was introduced to Don later (without the custume) he acted like nothing had happened and started a great friendship. Mike and I will miss him terribly.

When we think of Donald as Patrice would lovingly call him, we picture his face lit up with his warm and welcoming smile. And of course that twinkle in his eye. He loved life and expressed it as only he could in his art, his actions and words. He graciously shared his talents as easily as he smiled. Donald was always creating whether he was at home, in the garden or at school. He loved Patrice, Jesse, Luke, his family and friends. He loved...and we are all the richer for it!
