Barney A. Vellutello, age 89 of Pennsauken, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2010 at Care One of Evesham. Devoted father to Janice and Mark Schott and adoring grandfather to Marissa, Amanda and Allison Schott; Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (nee Cortese) and loving son of the late Giuseppe and Sebastiana Vellutello. Dear brother of Carmella Hassett (Jack) and the late Frank, Sam, Mary, Paul, Carmen and Josephine. Also survived by sister in laws Josephine Vellutello, Mary Cortese, Edith Rosa, Jeanne Cook; many loving nieces and nephews and special friend Dorothy Sobelewski. Barney was born in Carlin, PA (Blairfour) and moved to South Philadelphia as a young boy with his family. He graduated from Central High School in 1938 and then took classes at Bock School for the Arts. He began working for RCA as a teen, and was then drafted into World War II . He was assigned to the 361st Fighter Group at Bottisham Air Field in England and proudly served his country in the rank of Sergeant as an airplane mechanic/propeller specialist with the 468th Service Unit of the 361st Fighter Group. He retired in January 1985 from RCA after 45 years of dedicated service as a Quality Control Manager in their Deptford location. Barney was an engaging personality with the ability to start a conversation with anyone and have them leave saying what a wonderful person he is. His passions were reading, bowling, travel and his family and friends especially his granddaughters. He was a patient and caring man who was there for anyone who needed his help. Barney was very active in the community and was a longtime parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Cinnaminson. He was Past Commander of American Legion F.W. Grigg Post 68 of Merchantville and Chairman of Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Wellwood Park, President of Pennsauken Order of the Sons of Italy, Member of Browning Road Senior Citizens Group and Pennsauken Lions Club. In addition, he served as Past President and Treasurer of the National 361st Fighter Group Association. Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Monday from 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday from 9 to 10 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 North Browning Road . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at the Church of St. Charles Borromeo , 2500 Branch Pike in Cinnaminson . Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum in Cherry Hill . Donations in Barney's name can be made to American Legion F.W. Grigg Post No. 68, P.O. Box 1411, Merchantville, NJ 08109 to support their annual Memorial Day ceremony that he chaired for so many years.
