Oh how I will miss Carmelo so much! He was such a great insipriational mentor, and supervisor to me when I was a new caseworker for DYFS(DCPP). Carmelo was so full of joy, always had these funny sayings, and advice for me.
I loved his style, and enjoyed all his stories about his trips. That is one thing for sure, Carmelo lived his life to the fullest! He traveled and enjoyed every minute of it from what I could see.
Carmelo's dressing style was in a class all by himsef ! He would shock me with the amount of unique ensembles he would come up with to wear to work here.
I just loved watching him express himself. Carmelo's morale luncheons and team building events will truly be missed here.
I know that Heaven is very happy now to have Carmelo! I am hapy that he is no longer in anymore pain and will be able to rest in peace!
Farwell Carmelo until we meet again! I love you! You will be dearly missed! xoxoxoxo

When I was a new worker at Camden North, it could be overwhelming at times. But then Carmelo would dance by my desk with Waleska Pineiro and I learned to lighten up. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. By the way, I'm sure he's still dancing up there!

Carmelo's spririt was nothing but beautiful even in the midst of chaos. He was my first supervisor and met me as a child when he visited my mother who was a foster mother for over 35 years. He only bought uderstanding, love, friendship, support, and, encouragement when we encountered his spririt. He loved life even when life didnt love him and he taught me the same. I will never be the same in this life as I felt I lost a part of me and my spirit when I lost him; however I know we will meet again as he believed in the far greater. He taught me well and in his words, " I did my job and taught you well you must make me proud and sprout your wings butterfly". Yes, Carmelo, you are gone physically never forgotten and in my heart always and forever. Until we meet again, I pray to live my life and enjoy it as you did and taught me no matter what, "La vida loca is only temporary". Lastly, Carmelo, you always told me to pick up and move on in greater steps so that it disproves those who put you down. You will always be a thought and angel on my side. I lovve you beyond words and what I was able to physically show you. It is because of you I was able to make it and make a difference in my heart and for the families we serve at DCP&P.

The first time I met Carmelo was when i interned at DCPP in 2011. Years later I came back as a worker and was very happy to know that the loving, outgoing and well-dressed Carmelo would be my supervisor. I thank you for things that you have taught me. It was a pleasure working under you and I hope that my jouney through DCPP will be as great. You made me feel welcomed and was always open to talk to me or laugh. Your easy going spirit made it so easy to work here. I remember being in a training and a trainer speaking your name. They talked about how you were one of the best supervised. I gladly raised my hand and said "He is my supervisor". I realized how lucky I was to have you. I will miss having my cubicle decorated for the holidays and walking by to say Good Morning to you every day. Thank You for being you, a great man and a DCPP legacy. May God Bless your family.

As I write this today, your birthday, I know that you are probably having the biggest birthday party that heaven has ever seen! Believing that brings peace to my heart and comfort to my soul. Although things changed throughout the years, my memories with you always endured! Our countless "happy hours" at The Pub and Coastline, the amazing parties in your beautiful backyard, the joyous birthday celebrations, the twenty seven years of the birthday club dinners, the inside jokes and nicknames we shared (my flower, chilindrina, kids r us, big daddy), the times we danced the night away, the list goes on and on. It is because of all these extraordinary memories and more, that I will be forever grateful to have known you and blessed to have loved you! You will always be known as the life of the party. The joy you spread was contagious and incomparable. Your loss is immense and profound, but I know you are dancing in heaven right now. So with that I say, until we dance again my dear friend, rest in paradise! I will love you eternally!

Wounded and severed, painful aches and sharp peaks are all around everyones lives he's touched. No one could ever be around Melo and not be injected with his love. Small or great all who ever spoke to him would never under estimate the ability he had to make everything better just because Melo had his hand in it. I pray we all wear our wounded hearts as badges in honor of Melo. Let what we loved about him most , live in us now. He will be missed immensely.

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. You will always be a treasure, priceless and unique. There is such emptiness in my heart and in so many others. You brought togetherness, happiness and love to everything that would make a difference. I always looked forward to listening about your adventures and admire the pictures taken from all around the world. My only regret is that I did not travel with you. Carmelo, you were such an amazing man, a great and caring worker and a true friend. Now you’re in God loving arms and organizing some kind of get together with the angels! You always did what you wanted, cherished what you loved and celebrated life! I am forever blessed to have known you. Rest dear friend. Until we meet again. Diana Santiago

Carmelo has been my traveling partner and friend for twenty-eight years and for that I am forever thankful.
I have shared the delightful moments of him being chased by camels in Egypt, exchanging clothing and jewelry when our luggage was lost on a Mediterranean cruise, visiting Robben Island, South Africa, and going bare foot with him in Buddist Temples from Thailand to Japan. No matter where we traveled in the world, he became the unofficial tour guide within the second day of our trip, hosting many gatherings in our hotel room!
We have traveled many valleys and reached many mountain tops, and this is just another one of our journeys. And now Carmelo journey has lead him to Junior and they are fine.
Carmelo leaves a wonderful legacy and I praise God for bringing him into my life.

The Garcia family lost a son, a sibling, a great person and my mom lost one of her closes friends. Carmelo traveled the world with my mom making great memories and taking some awesome pictures to put into a photo album so she would always have them. He always made sure my mom was safe and on that plane or on that ship to return home to us and for that I will be forever grateful. Carmelo was an exceptional friend to my mom as well as our family and he will be truly missed.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I met Carmelo at work in which I travel to various offices throughout the State. He was a BEAUTIFUL PERSON. His passion and kindness was BREATHTAKING! You wanted to get to know him.... he was just so kind and such a free spirit. He could make a miserable person smile on a very bad day - that is the type of person Carmelo was to me. He has lived life, loved life, traveled the world and I have no doubt that he is in a Good Place. He will be missed by all, Loved by All and he has touched SO MANY that he will never be forgotten.....

One of the most beautiful sources of LIGHT in the Camden North DCPP/DYFS Office went out on September 28, 2015 and we are at a loss for words. Carmelo was and is one of the kindest spirits I have ever known and was the reason I stayed committed to such team-building events as the "Morale Building Luncheons" the "Team Building" Days, the "Secret Pal Club" I tried to leave "but Carmelo"... always gave one of those "Like My Grandmother used to say" quotes and I would join another year. He was a tireless advocate for all things that built camaraderie and goodwill amongst his peers, especially the "Graduation Banquet", the "Teen Prom", and a host of fund-raising activities that united the Camden County Offices. His legacy has to be memorialized and carried forward by the Camden County families of DCPP Offices! Carmelo loved his work as a supervisor in the Camden North Local Offices and his unit members considered him to be more than a Supervisor, but instead a trusted, consistently kind and giving Member of an ever-growing family that he created. From decorating the walls, cubicles, doors and halls of the drab office, Carmelo did everything with LOVE. That's Carmelo's greatest Legacy- LOVE that lived to see the world, to explore the most far-flung regions of the world, sunsets, sunrises, beaches, and PARTIES. Carmelo was an event planner extraordinaire and what a void many will feel during holidays! Carmelo loved to COOK, to SEW and was one of the most artistically gifted persons I have ever met. He lived to create beauty. His elegance and wit are matchless and I will miss his famous "quotes" that accompanied all of his office emails... I could go on and on but as Carmelo (or Shakespeare) would say, "Brevity is the soul of wit". Rest well beloved Carmelo- You earned the Butterfly wings you loved.

Carmelo will always live in his co-workers' hearts, as he has touched the lives of many that worked with him. His memory will carry on as we remember the funny & unforgettable moments we had in his company. For all of us who had the opportunity to know him and interact with him on a day to day, can say that there was never a moment when laughers were not shared with Carmelo. He also was very caring & loving towards the people dear to him. There was never a moment in which Carmelo was not surrounded by the people who cared for him or a moment in which he wasn’t sharing words of advice with those who needed support. It was a pleasure working side by side with Carmelo & to get to know such a wonderful person. My prayers are with all family members & close friends to strengthen them during this time of sorrow.
