Remembering Monica Morris (Rhooms)
I am Karen Thompson (Peterkin)
I first met Monica when my parents relocated to Rosemount, St. Catherine from Chatham, St. James, Jamaica.
We interacted amiably as time would allow given my attendance at school.
After completing high school, my journey took me to college, work, and starting a family in Kingston and I was therefore distanced from the community. As time passed my mother fell ill prompting my return to monitor her well being. During this period Monica was next door, diligently caring for her sister whose health was also compromised.
Reconnecting with her was pleasant and our friendship blossomed. We spent precious moments together tending to our gardens, taking leisurely walks, and reminiscing about earlier days. Her presence became a source of comfort during the challenging time, creating a bond erasing the time we spent apart.
Monica's wisdom, kindness and the shared memories added much warmth to our lives and she became not just a neighbour but a true friend. In the garden of life she planted seeds of true friendship that grew into shared experiences.
She returned to the USA after her sister's passing, but our friendship continued through regular phone calls.
Despite health challenges, she remained positive and bubbly, always checking on me and my farm activities. Our friendship has come to an end, but the memories of the times we shared will forever hold a special place in my ❤️.
May she find eternal rest, and may her legacy of genuine care and resilience live on.
Let us carry forward the lessons of compassion and selflessness she imparted so effortlessly.
